Analytic Performance Comparison of Link Adaptation Schemes Used in Mobile Communication Systems
|
Based on the mathematical model of two link adaptation schemes used in wireless communication systems, their performance is analytically compared. One of them is a fast transmission power control (FTPC) scheme, and the other is a fast transmission rate control (FTRC) scheme. The former is based on both fixed transmission rate (FTR) and fixed modulation and coding (FMC). The latter is based on adaptive modulation and coding (AMC), and it is based on either fixed transmission power (FTP) or variable transmission power (VTP). Two performance measures are used in this paper. The first one is the mean transmission power at the base station (BS) when the number of mobile station (MS) in a cell is the same. The second one is the maximum number of supportable MSs in a cell when the average interference to other cells is the same. And, the effect of the burstiness of the outer-cell interference on the link level performance is investigated.
